This devestating bait store and marina fire resulted in a spectacular blaze that took several hours to fully contain. Fire district 42, along with nearby stations were dispatched to a report of the blaze. Upon the arrival of first-due engine 42, a second alarm was immediately requested, after flames were seen roaring through the roof, and spreading to several pontoon boats. Fire and rescue crews from Jacksonville and St. John's county faught the blaze from the interior, Julington Creek Bridge, and also from the St. John's River with Marine 3. The JFRD haz-mat team was also dispatched to the scene, as diesel fuel from boats leaked into the river. News stations along with dozens of spectators crowded to watch the blaze. The cause of the fire was determined to be caused from a short circuit in the storage room of the bait shop, the total loss is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands.
