St. Augustine & St. John's County Fire Rescue Training Class
Various fire and rescue department personnel from the first coast area attended an engineering and pump operator class at F.C.T.I. Crews convened on October 11th, to practice and actuallly put into action what they had learned from the books. The class relay pumped and suplied 3 2-1/2 inch master streams from
atop the counties 115, 110, and 75 foot aerial/ tower ladders from a single hydrant. This "tandem pumping" operation is rarely used in the field, however its performance is a useful tool in order to help students sharpen their skills. For hours crews' reviewed and learned several methods to become top engineer/ pump operators.

Mock Terrorist Drill at Jacksonville International Airport
This years terrorist drill took into account almost any and every possibility for tragedy. The "incident" was staged at a very populated location; the Jacksonville International Airport. JFRD crews took part along with several other fire, rescue, and law enforcement agencies. The mock was of a crashed plane and over 100 walking and talking wounded, alongwith several fatalities. The mock drill brought into light the cities' emergency response downfalls, and how they can better be prepared if such an event were to ever actually take place in Jacksonville.
Jacksonville Waterways Now Even Safer Than Before
A ceremony officially receiving another fire and rescue marine unit, brought a fairly large crowd together at the Jacksonville Landing. Mayor Peyton was on hand to "cristen" the unit, followed by a display of its pumping capabilities. Afterwards citizens were able to climb aboard and tour the citys' newest apparatus.
Engine and Ladder 28 help out the youth by giving them needed tips to avoid fire dangers and how to stay safe through the summer. Crews then went over each apparatus and described what each tool does.
Fire station 51 gave a tour to around 30 children and their parents. The children were very unique in that they were all sets of either twins or triplets. The youths were shown the facility, the equipment fire fighter's use on calls, and both the station's engine, and rescue.
Tower Ladder and Tanker 44, along with Engine 51 aided a newly renovated apartment complex with their festivities. Crews stood by at the pool, gave tours of the trucks, and equipment.
On Friday, October 10, A touching ceremony was held at Fire Station 1 for Jacksonville's Fallen Fire Fighters. Personnel from the JFRD, along with the families, friends, and even Mayor Peyton remembered the lives and memories of the fallen.
