As mid-afternoon thunderstorms raged through the Southside area, Engine, Ladder, and Tanker 28 were toned out to a smoke odor
investigation at a 3-story apartment building complex. As units arrived a working fire was burning, producing moderate smoke from the
roof. A full structure fire assignment was requested and crews made an initial attack on the fire. Jacksonville fire crews had contained
the fire in under 45 minutes. Lightning was the determined cause, as several residents claimed to had seen a bolt strike the building.
After several hours on the scene crews were alerted to another similar blaze in a neighboring apartment complex down the street from
the original fire. As crews rushed to the second fire it was contained as the fire burned itself out.
